In 1945, Curtis Pitts built the first of a number of aircraft that were to dominate aerobatic competition around the world in the 1960s & 70s.
Pitts began with an idea of creating an aerobatic aeroplane that would defy gravity, would climb, roll and change attitude quicker, while being crisp on the controls. The Pitts Special was revolutionary because of its small size, light weight, short wingspan and extreme agility.
Today, the Pitts Special S1S remains an excellent choice for competition as well as air displays.
